Introducing Balter IIPA Vintage 20 - A Brand New Old Beer by Balter

Originals are great, but sometimes you want to slide a little zing in the playlist. Remix a classic beat with some cowbell thrown in. Balter has done exactly that with their new 2020 edition IIPA. The brew takes the same malt base people loved in past year’s Balter Imperial IPA, but uses totally different experimental hops to add fresh notes. American Strata is the latest hero hop, with some Simcoe and Australian Cascade thrown in for good measure. The result is a full-flavoured balance of Northern meets Southern hemisphere hops.

“One of the exciting things about beer is just how much variation there is, even within the same style of beer,” says Balter Brewmaster Scott Hargrave. “This edition was a great way to give a nod to our IIPA fans, yet still showcase how much its flavours can change with a single ingredient tweak. That’s the point of our experimental releases. They’re about trying things and seeing where they land. We didn’t think we’d be putting Aussie rascal Cascade in a big beer like this, but the interplay with Strata connected by Simcoe creates a surprisingly quaffable drop, especially for an IIPA.”

This ‘yearly vintage’ idea is something Balter plan to continue moving forward with a fresh IIPA each growing season, offering a familiar yet different take for their big beer lovers. An identical malt base will continue to be the backbone, with new hop varieties given the headlining act every year.

Packaged in a 375ml tin with double yellow stripes to hint at its substantial 8.0% ABV, the Balter 2020 IIPA goes a little something like this:

Say hello to our 2020 IIPA. Think of it like a wine vintage, but better because it’s beer. This year’s edition plays off our original IIPA malt base with new Strata hops, plus a little Simcoe and Aussie Cascade to keep things unique. Its full range of flavours roll over your tongue, with passionfruit, mandarine, and even subtle red berry. One to savour like a cravat-clad connoisseur (even if you’re just rocking Stubbies and thongs).

The beer will be released in limited quantities this week, so head down to your local Balter stockist to sample a sip, before its variation is gone forever.
